Deciphering a spell in a spellbook requires a Spellcraft check with a DC of 20 + the spell’s level or use of the read magic spell. An alchemist does not need to decipher arcane writings before copying them.
Once deciphered, 1 hour of study and a Spellcraft check with a DC of 15 + the spell’s level is required to understand a spell. If the check is failed, one week must pass before a new check may be attempted.
Once understood, it takes 1 hour per spell level (30 minutes for cantrips) to copy a spell into a spellbook or formula book, at a cost of spell level squared x 10 gp (5 gp for cantrips).
